In the article written by Glen Proechel, the Klingon language is being compared to the Esperanto language. The Klingon language and the Esperanto language have both been created for a entertainment. The Klingon language was made to be used in the Star Trek films. Although this language has been created, most people have taken a liking to it and have decided to learn this verbal form.
The Klingon language is very interesting. After reading through the breakdown of some of the grammar points included in the language, this dialect seems like it would be very challenging to learn. The author of the article mentions that many individuals are interested in learning this language form. Many Klingon language programs and language materials have been created to help learn this speech.
Dr. Okrand, who has established the Klingon dictionary, says, “That the Klingon language is one that is unlike any other speech form, this is built on the foundation that it belongs or has been created for an alien race.” The basis of syntax in the language is completely opposite to that of the English language. Surface cognates, are slim to none in the Klingon language, which is different than the Esperanto language. The Esperanto language pays close attention to the vowel endings that are presented in the words, whereas Klingon does not put as much emphasis on this aspect of the language.
I had never heard of this created language. I found it very interesting to read about. As far as ever being interested in learning it, that answer would be not so much. I would not have the patience to learn this language, and honestly no desire to. I do not really see a benefit in learning it, because the chances of someone else knowing this Klingon language are few and far between. I do not feel as though the people that I communicate with on a regular basis would have any knowledge of this material. What do you think? Would you learn this Klingon language?
After reading this article, I think that this language, the Klingon language, is definitely something that is different and maybe interesting to some who have the patience to learn it and understand it. However, I personally don't think that this language would be affective for everyone to learn and speak fluently. Looking at the previous language and this one presented in this article, it would be impossible for everyone to stick to one language. There several amongst several languages in the world and the different languages are very important and interesting to be knowledgeable of. This Klingon language would be irrelevant in my daily speaking and to others, and I think it would be a waste of time to spend and put effort into something that is not neccesary.
ReplyDeleteI had heard of Klingon before reading this, only because I've heard it mentioned on tv or in a movie before. Some people who are really interested in Star Trek seem to have learned it but I don't really see what other people who aren't interested in Star Trek would see in it. Unless you're a fan that I don't see why other people would want to waste their time learning this made up language. It's interesting that someone was able to create this whole language but it really doesn't serve any purpose other than to add to the Star Trek legacy.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of the Klingon language before reading this article, due to the TV show Star Trek. I have never wanted to ever learn the language because i feel like there is no need for me to waste time on a made up language that not many people know how to speak. Now people may say it is a real language, but it is not, it is a made up language for the sake of fans of Star Trek can hold on to forever.
ReplyDeleteBefore reading this article, I have never even heard of Klingon mainly because I never watched Star Trek. Even though it is found on a popular television show, it really does not make me want to learn this language. When is this going to be useful in life? The only place that it would be found in is at a sci-fi convention full of geeks.
ReplyDeleteKlingon has definitely had its moments of fame in American pop-culture. It is base on the show Star Trek and was created to have a communication between the alien race. It is very interesting that this connection between the two language has been assumed. The truth about this is that any foreign thing, is considered an alien to America. This means the thought of creating a language used by everyone, would be the opposite to an alien language. It is an oxymoron, however, it is an interesting assumption none-the-less.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of the Klingon language. After reading this article it would be interesting to be able to speak the language. I have never seen any aliens so it would be hard to speak the Klingon language.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time ever hearing of this language. I've never been interested in Star-Trek so the use of this language would be pointless to me. I'm not interested in even attempting to learn this language. If you're like me (not a fan) there would be no point of this language. The thought of trying to speak to an alien in this language or speaking to them period, is pretty lame and pointless to me.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Klingon before and I've always thought it was a very strange language. I feel like learning Klingon would be a waste of time unless you were interested in sci-fi. It's not like other valid languages that many people speak. It's interesting but will most likely never be offered as a foreign language for students!
ReplyDeleteThose fans of Star Trek are die-hard fans and would not shy away from their beloved show for an instant. In saying this the Klington language, though having no prior knowledge of it, seems to be in the perfect crowd to have a following. Yet I do deem it nearly impossible for a language to be made up as the Klington and Esperanto languages to have an affect on peoples lives. Although it is clear to fans of Star Trek this language will never fully reach the extent as the English language has. There are other worthwhile languages that can be learned like Spanish, French and German over a made up language like the Klington language.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of this language before. I have never been interested in learning it though. The english language is a lot better language than the Klingon language. This will never become a language used by myself.
ReplyDeleteThe name, the Klingon language sounds familiar to me. I have not heard the language being spoken before, seeing as though I don't watch Star-Trek. I don't see a purpose for the usage of the language as of now because no one can relate or speak it for that matter. I don't feel as though it is completely irrelevant and it should be accounted for maybe later on down the line, just in case there becomes a purpose for the language that we can not yet witness.
ReplyDeleteI felt this article was pretty interesting. I had never heard of the Klingon language before. The thought of it is definitely an interesting idea, although I do no feel that it will catch on. It is too much hassle, and people have enough to worry about today. It sounds like some type of science fiction idea.
ReplyDeleteI found this article interesting. I have heard of the Klingon language before but never really knew where it came from. I dont think that this language would be effective in society. People dont have the patience to learn an entirely new languae based off a TV series.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time ever hearing about Klingon language, but its seems interesting to learn. Although it might be difficult to learn. In the world we live in today this type of language might not survive. Even a lot of people might not agree with the language its apart of our history. If I had to learn it I believe I would eventually catch on.
ReplyDeleteI had heard of this language before and i find it interesting. While interesting, I would not have the time or patience to learn this language. I also think it would be a waste of time, as it would be hard to find a sizable amount of other people that speak the language.
